Clean Pool – The Lowdown on Algae

A clean pool is easiest with a fiberglass pool – BUT all pools are susceptible to algae and need regular maintenance. In addition to knowing how to care for your equipment and general pool chemistry, understanding each type of algae is beneficial . Sometimes algae can be a major nuisance, especially in vinyl liner and above ground swimming pools. Different types of algae require different approaches – and can sometimes be a challenge to eliminate.

All swimming pools require regular weekly and some seasonal maintenance. With a fiberglass pool, this typically means 30 minutes a week or less as it is non-porous and doesn’t have the cracks and crevices in other types of pools. Whether you have a professional cleaner or you do it yourself, you should always test strips on hand and know the basics including how to backwash your pool and general pool chemistry knowledge.

If your pool is a rental, we strongly recommend considering a yearly maintenance contract to ensure a safe and clean pool and spa that’s renter-ready at a moment’s notice. It’s not good business to lose a rental because you chose to save $100 or so because you weren’t expecting anyone a particular week. Our maintenance company is purposely small to allow us to provide the highest quality care available here on the Outer Banks. Our service area includes Corolla, Duck, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head. FOR MORE INFO about Southern Scapes Pool & Landscape Design swimming pool and spa maintenance services, please see our Pool Maintenance page.
