February landscaping – this blog is a must read if you have damaged plants. This winter has been especially hard on our landscapes. Hopefully, you wrapped your tender plants for the winter. If you didn’t, don’t be surprised if you lose tender plants or have some damage. Wait until spring to do any pruning. You may want to protect them from more damage by adding mulch or straw or covering them until spring.
Right now is a great time to apply dormant oil to plants prone to insects, especially if the plant received any winter damage. Dormant oil will smother pesky insects without hurting the dormant plant.
Lastly, it’s time to start thinking about new additions to your landscape. Early spring is a great time to install new plantings because it lowers water requirements and tends to reduce stress.
