SOUTHERN SCAPES - ABOUT US

Southern Scapes Landscape & Design, LLC has been installing landscapes on the Outer Banks since 1998. Our goal was, and is, to bring beautiful, innovative landscapes to the area while providing superior customer service. Now Southern Scapes is one of the largest companies in the region.

Southern Scapes Garden Center was established in 2003 in Powell's Point, North Carolina. Owners Christy and Tom May were afforded the opportunity to buy an existing nursery and extend our services to the do-it-yourselfers. In 2005, we added fiberglass swimming pools and spas to our line and in 2006 we became distributors for NAVA Stone, a paving product company.

Tom May is a graduate of Fork Union and Rowan University. He has worked in landscape design and installation since age 15. Tom’s first landscaping job was with Lipinski’s in Medford, New Jersey. Lipinski’s is among the top 50 landscaping firms in the nation. Tom relocated from New Jersey to the Outer Banks in 1998. His work experience, combined with his passions for nature and art led him to start Southern Scapes Landscape & Design, LLC and later Southern Scapes Garden Center, Inc.

Christy Ambrose May is a graduate from Manteo High School (yes, she actually grew up on the Outer Banks) and a 1997 graduate from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. With her business and management background, having a business of her own seemed like the natural progression. Christy and Tom met in 1998 and their dreams were realized together with the creation of Southern Scapes.

As a company, Christy and Tom feel very fortunate to have highly trained, educated individuals working with them. Nearly everyone on their staff has attended college and has various degrees and certifications in horticulture and/or landscape design and installation. The staff makes Southern Scapes what it is, the best outdoor enhancements company in northeastern North Carolina. The company's team of professionals is dedicated to creating functional and aesthetic outdoor spaces for our clients.
